MORROW -- Week 4 Highlights: Last week at Walnut Hills, the Little Miami Panthers delivered a statement win, dominating the host Eagles 33-0 in a game that showcased opportunistic defense, explosive play-calling, and a relentless ground attack.
The action ignited on the first play of the second quarter. Walnut Hills, lined up in a heavy double-tight three-back set from their own 48-yard line, attempted a direct snap to RB Jonathan Jackson Jr. But Jackson fumbled the ball into the hands of a waiting Little Miami defense.
The Panthers capitalized immediately. On the next play, senior QB Cam Fox, lined up at flanker, went into motion before receiving a handoff from RB Andrew Trapp. Fox, now sweeping to the right, stopped and launched a 35-yard strike to junior WR Carter Stewart, who tight-roped the sideline for a huge gain. Two QB power runs later, Trapp barreled into the end zone from four yards out. A successful two-point conversion gave Little Miami an early 8-0 lead, setting the tone.
The defense made its presence known on the next drive. After three unsuccessful plays by the Eagles, junior punter Colin Ross mishandled a snap deep in his own territory. Little Miami senior DE Chase Marshall broke through unblocked and smothered the punt, sending it through the back of the end zone for a safety and a 10-0 Panthers advantage.
The Panthers' offense returned to the field with favorable position from the Eagles' 43-yard line. Methodical play-calling set up another direct snap to Trapp, who powered in from 13 yards out for his second touchdown of the game, extending the lead to 17-0.
Walnut Hills continued to unravel. Another botched punt attempt gave Little Miami the ball at the Eagles' 38. Seven plays later, multi-sport standout kicker Cade Wojnicz drilled a career-best 34-yard field goal to push the Panthers' lead to 20-0 heading into halftime.
Things didn't improve for Walnut Hills in the second half. On fourth-and-two from their own 38, the Eagles ran the same formation that had doomed them earlier—and suffered their third lost fumble of the game. Little Miami capitalized again on the very next play, as senior RB Lucas Basta took a tunnel screen 39-yards to the house, weaving through defenders and stretching the Panthers' lead to 26-0.
Later in the third, with Walnut Hills pinned deep, Little Miami brought the heat. On third-and-16 from the Eagles' 3-yard line, QB Will Rivers was sacked and fumbled. Panthers defender Aiden Hamiel fell on the loose ball in the end zone for his first career touchdown—Little Miami's fourth takeaway of the night—and sealed a dominant 33-0 win.
The blowout marked head coach Nate Mahon's first victory of his second tenure with the Panthers, and was the team's highest point total since a 35-6 win over Turpin in Week 3 of the 2022 season.
Up Next: Now sitting at 1-3 (1-2 ECC), the Panthers return home for a much-anticipated Homecoming showdown against Route 48 rival Lebanon (3-1, 2-1 ECC). The Warriors are looking to bounce back after a crushing 36-10 loss to Anderson in Week 4, while Little Miami aims to build on last week's momentum.
With defensive swagger, creative offensive play-calling, and a renewed sense of identity, Mahon's Panthers are primed for a statement game under the lights this Friday.
