Setting the scene: The Little Miami Panthers varsity football team (0-7, 0-6) returns to the friendly confines of LMHS Panther Stadium this Friday night for Homecoming 2023, after a three-week Eastern Cincinnati Conference road trip that proved to be as difficult as advertised.
After facing the ECC's Top 3 teams, the Panthers now seek to snap an eight-game skid that started in Round 2 of the OHSAA postseason at Anderson in 2022, as they welcome the upstart Loveland Tigers into Morrow.
However, the Loveland Tigers (4-3, 4-2) find themselves thirsty for another win in Week 8, and in the thick of the D-II, Region 8 playoff hunt at No. 7 in the 22-school field (Top 16 qualify). Loveland started the 2023 campaign at 0-3, but in the last four weeks, the Tigers are unblemished at 4-0 as they knocked off Kings, Lebanon, Walnut Hills, and Turpin to climb north of .500 for the first time since Week 9 of 2015.
ECC Top 5: Little Miami junior WR Mitchell Lyons is ranked No. 2 in the ECC with 626 receiving yards. Lyons had a career-best 11 catches for 197 yards at Turpin in Week 3 and followed that with seven grabs for 190 yards against Lebanon a week later. Additionally, Mitchell has two TD catches this season. Last Friday at Anderson, Lyons blew past Raptor coverage on a vertical seam route and logged a career-long 76-yard TD score which put the Panthers within a point at 8-7 with 7:18 remaining in the opening stanza.
Defensively, junior LB Rhys Jones leads the ECC with 74 total tackles, and fellow Panther junior DB Cody Neltner trails closely behind at No. 4 with 65 stops. Additionally, Neltner also ranks at No. 4 in The Conference with 5.5 sacks this season.
Homecoming Parade: The 2023 Homecoming Parade will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6 PM. The parade will begin at Mounts Park and travel to LMHS.
Homecoming Court: Homecoming Court introductions will occur at approximately 6:20 PM during football pregame activities.
